The Cracks

Share:

The Cracks of Lanzarote are a geological wonder that has become a phenomenon on social networks thanks to the spectacular photos that visitors can take there. These formations, located on the slopes of the Montaña Blanca volcano, are a testimony to the volcanic origin of the island and an essential destination for any visitor.

How to get to the Cracks of Lanzarote?

The Cracks of Lanzarote can be visited after leaving our car parked in a parking lot next to the LZ-35 road, which connects the municipalities of San Bartolomé and Tías.

History of the Cracks

Las Grietas are an impressive example of the volcanic origin of Lanzarote. They were formed by the cooling of the lava from an eruption in contrast to the cooling of the supporting rock. These cracks, which extend for about twenty meters through a narrow corridor of solidified lava, have been drilled into Montaña Blanca by the action of water over the years.

In recent years, Las Grietas has gained popularity thanks to social networks. The stunning photos that visitors can take there have made this place a popular destination for nature and photography lovers.

What to see in Las Grietas?

There are three cracks in total, separated by only a few meters between them. The most interesting is the main one, but you can walk through all of them through a very narrow natural corridor with irregular walls. You can also climb up the side to the top of the lava tongue and see the cracks from above, behind the back of the White Mountain. From there you will also have incredible views of the island between Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife.
