In the heart of Lanzarote, near Playa Quemada and framed by the majestic Los Ajaches Natural Park, lies a hidden oasis known as the Secret Garden. This green corner, transformed from a stony ground to a garden by a local family, has become a hidden treasure that has captivated visitors from all over the world.

Location of the Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is located in the vicinity of Playa Quemada, in the natural environment of Los Ajaches. It can be accessed after a walk of approximately three and a half kilometers from Playa Quemada in a southwest direction. During the journey, you cross Playa de la Arena and Playa del Pozo, until you reach Playa de La Casita, where this green oasis is located.

History of the Secret Garden

The Secret Garden began to flourish in the 90s, when Juan María Cabrera Medina and Natalia Martínez decided to spend their summers with their children in this place. On days when they couldn’t fish, they set about creating small gardens, planting various species, and building stone walls. Over time, this rocky corner was transformed into a secret garden. In recognition of their work, in 2018, the Cabrera Martín family received a distinguished tourism award from the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote.

What to see in the Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is a place of great natural beauty, where you can enjoy the tranquility and uniqueness of its surroundings.

Here, visitors can admire the gardens created by the Cabrera Martín family, as well as the ornaments made with objects that the sea has left on the coast. In addition, from the Secret Garden you can enjoy impressive views of the Los Ajaches Natural Park.

Recommendations for visiting the Secret Garden

  • If you plan to visit the Secret Garden, we recommend that you do so with respect for the natural environment and the efforts of the Cabrera Martín family.
  • Don’t forget to bring water and some food, as there are no toilets in the Secret Garden.
  • Remember to respect the natural environment and not leave garbage.

The Secret Garden is a paradisiacal corner that offers a unique experience in Lanzarote. With its tranquillity, natural beauty and history, it is the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy the beauty of Lanzarote. If you are planning a trip to Lanzarote, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Secret Garden and immerse yourself in the tranquility of this green corner.
