Red Mountain Story

Montaña Roja is a dormant volcano located in the town of Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote. Its name comes from the reddish color of its slopes, the result of the oxidation of volcanic minerals.

Hiking Tips

A small and pleasant route that runs along a path in the direction of the crater that is quite steep and rocky. It is recommended to wear good hiking shoes to avoid slipping. At the top of the crater it is usually very windy, so it is advisable to be prepared with some warm clothing, depending on the time of year.

Route Experience

Enjoy this 2.9-km circular route near Yaiza, Lanzarote. It is generally considered a moderate route, taking an average of 1 h 1 min to complete. It’s a popular region for birdwatching and hiking, so you’re likely to run into other people while you’re in the area. The best time to visit this route is from February to March. The highlight of the tour is the arrival at the crater, from where you can appreciate breathtaking views of the south of Lanzarote.
