History of Femes

Since pre-Hispanic times, Femes has been a place of strategic importance due to its elevated location. During the conquest of Lanzarote in the 15th century, Femes became a bastion of resistance for the island’s natives, the majos. The resistance was so fierce that the place earned the nickname “Fortress of the Rebels”.
