History of Femes

Since pre-Hispanic times, Femes has been a place of strategic importance due to its elevated location. During the conquest of Lanzarote in the 15th century, Femes became a bastion of resistance for the island’s natives, the majos. The resistance was so fierce that the place earned the nickname “Fortress of the Rebels”. Despite the changes it has undergone over the centuries, Femes has managed to retain its traditional character, and even today you can feel the strength and spirit of resistance that characterized its ancient inhabitants.
